From famous friends for hire to Kate Bush-aping interpretive dance, it’s likely the modern music video will fit one of these frameworks

Before Marvel monopolised blockbuster season and tried to crowbar in some, like, intelligence, you could always count on a mega-budget film experience to sit in front of and unplug your brain. Thankfully, that kind of gloriously empty nonsense still exists in pop videos and it’s mainly Taylor Swift and director Joseph Kahn’s fault.

First there was 2015’s feminism-destroying Bad Blood, in which every high-gloss “futuristic” scene screams: “The budget for this one video is more than your entire album campaign!” That was then followed by last year’s Route One dystopian cosplay video ...Ready For It?, which appeared to re-use some of the old Bad Blood sets while borrowing its one aesthetic highlight from Scarlett Johansson’s version of Ghost in the Shell. Worst of all was End Game, in which lavish country-hopping ended up looking like the most expensive (and boring) episode of A Place in the Sun.

Pop stars are busy people: there is original content to upload; other famous people to interview for magazine covers; and Twitter apologies made up of screenshots of the iPhone Notes app to post. So, sometimes a music video is the last thing a schedule will allow, and that’s where things get creative, ie everyone panics.

Ed Sheeran’s latest slightly pass-agg love song Happier features a puppet rendering of the multi-millionaire, who is in the middle of a world tour, while serial collaborator Selena Gomez used the same excuse for not appearing in a video with Charlie Puth. That must surely have been why Kelela put out the animated, Sims-inspired Frontline video, too, right? Still, both are preferable to the barrel-scraping tour montage video, as showcased recently in Pink’s “will this do?” single, Whatever You Want.

Pink announces 2019 tour dates, including even more local concerts

Pink is coming back to the Bay Area.

No, in this particular case, we’re not talking about the shows later this month, when she performs May 18-19 at Oracle Arena in Oakland. You can find out all about those by dialing up www.ticketmaster.com.

In this case, we’re talking about two other local dates, which take place roughly a year from now. Like to plan ahead? Well, then go ahead and mark these on your calendars:

Pink performs April 10 at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento and April 17 at the SAP Center in San Jose.

The show’s are part of the pop superstar’s Beautiful Trauma World Tour.

Pink is using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan platform for selling tickets, which means that fans need to register in advance of buying these verified tickets. The platform helps ensure that tickets get into the hands of the actual fans, not scalpers. Registrations runs 10 a.m. May 3 to 10 p.m. May 6. See www.ticketmaster.com for details.

Presale tickets for registered fans go on sale at 10 a.m. May 8. Tickets then go on sale to the general public on May 11.

Pink books return trip to Xcel Energy Center one year in advance

High-flying global pop star Pink will return to St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center on May 5, 2019, and with any luck, this time she won’t be ill.

Tickets are priced from $224.45 to $44.45 and go on sale at 10 a.m. May 11 through Ticketmaster. Citi cardholders have access to a presale starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The woman born Alecia Beth Moore was suffering from the flu when she was in town for Super Bowl Weekend. She powered through the national anthem on game day, but was clearly struggling during a one-off performance at the newly renovated Armory in downtown Minneapolis and cut several songs from the set.

Pink returned to the X in March and announced to the sold-out crowd she was sick once again, although she still managed to turn in a full show, complete with her now-famous mid-air acrobatics.

Since emerging in 2000, Pink has dominated the pop charts with a series of hits that include “There You Go, “Get the Party Started,” “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” “Just Like a Pill,” “Who Knew,” “So What,” “Raise Your Glass,” “Try,” “Just Like Fire” and “What About Us.”

On her last tour, Pink spent a full year touring the globe, including sold-out stops at the X in March 2013 and Minneapolis’ Target Center the following January. Billboard declared her Woman of the Year in 2013 and reported her tour had sold $147.9 million worth of tickets.

Pink to perform Beautiful Trauma World Tour at Gila River Arena in 2019

PHOENIX — International pop icon Pink just gave us a reason to go to Gila River Arena.

She will perform in the Glendale arena as part of her Beautiful Trauma World Tour on March 30 next year.

That’s right – she’s still a rock star. She’s got her rock moves. But now, she needs you.

Presale tickets will go on sale Tuesday on Ticketmaster. They will be available to the general public beginning May 11.

Customers can redeem a copy of Pink’s new album, “Beautiful Trauma.”

Pink, born Alecia Moore, has been nominated for 19 Grammy Awards and won three. She also won a Daytime Emmy, three Billboard Music Awards and seven MTV Video Musician Awards.

Since her debut in 2000, she has sold over 50 million albums, 75 million singles and 2.4 million DVDs. She has had 15 singles in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including four No. 1 songs.

Pink was named Billboard’s Woman of the Year in 2013.

If you’re unable to see her March 30, nearby concerts include Los Angeles shows on March 16, 17 and April 19, a Las Vegas performance on April 12 and a Denver and Salt Lake City show on April 1 and 3, respectively.

James Taylor: I lost all respect for Kevin Pietersen after he slagged me off to team-mates

Kevin Pietersen came in for more criticism yesterday when ex-England batsman James Taylor called his former team-mate ‘embarrassing’ and a ‘t***’.

Taylor made his Test debut at Headingley in 2012, walking out to bat with Pietersen — who was on the way to his famous 149.

In the latest extract in the serialisation of his new book, Cut Short, Taylor, who retired from the game two years ago because of a potentially fatal heart condition, writes: ‘I touched gloves with Kev. He didn’t give me much. “Enjoy it,” he told me. “Do your thing.”

‘A few days later I heard that, during the innings, he allegedly commented that I wasn’t going to be on the highlights that night. His low opinion of me extended into the dressing room.

'That same day, he apparently slagged me off to other players for not being good enough and batting too slow.’

Pietersen then indulged in what Taylor calls an ‘almighty whine’ during his end-of-play press conference, insisting it was ‘hard being me’ in the England dressing room because of a spoof Twitter account he believed was being operated with the support of team-mates.

Def Leppard: When Are We Planning to Work on Another Album

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott has stated that the band has begun thinking ahead to the follow-up to the band's 2015's self-titled album.

Well, we're always thinking. There's a moment in time where it's total backburner. I mean, the fact that you're aware of it just means you're aware that next year's 2019 and you don't think about it.

When I get home from doing all this promo [for Def Leppard's upcoming tour], I'm going to straight to work on my Down 'N' Outz album, which is my side project. We're making our third album, which we've written and I've gotta kinda finish that off. It's about halfway through. Phil's [Collen, Def Leppard guitarist] just released his Delta Deep thing and I know Vivian's [Campbell, Def Leppard guitarist] still working on Last In Line. We're all doing side things that we're working on.

When this tour's done and we've got a bit of downtime, we'll probably have all collected, individually written bits and bobs for what will be the next Def Leppard record. We share them with each other and go, "Oh. All right. What would happen if we do this with that one and blah, blah, blah?" and, all of sudden, we'll have every bit of half an album written.

D ierks Bentley sets his Mountain High Tour in motion Friday but before he hits the road, the Arizona native wanted to do a good deed at home in Middle Tennessee.

Dierks, his band, crew and openers LANCO spent Monday packing more than 10,000 pounds of food at Second Harvest Food Bank, as part of the non-profit's Hunger Free Summer campaign. That adds up to more than 8,600 meals that will help feed families in need when school's not in session.

“Typically when a tour is a about to launch, you get your band and crew together for some drinks before the run, but I wanted to make sure we did something different this year,” Dierks explains. “We got everyone together to really start off with what it’s all about for me right now: gratitude."

"The more we get to do and grow out there on the road," Dierks continues, "the more I want to make it all mean something and Second Harvest is doing great work to make a difference in our community."

Brothers Osborne couldn't be along for Monday's outing, as they're just returning from a tour of the U.K. and Ireland. They'll be there Friday, however, when the Mountain High trek launches in Columbia, Maryland.
